The Importance of Pleasing God

We are all the same.  There is nobody that is better than anybody else.  Because of that there is nothing that any of us can do that pleases God more than anyone else.  Doesn’t that sound good?  Well, it sounds good but it just AINT Bible.  Now I am not talking about whether or not we are all condemned to death and hell because of our sin, but once we are saved, once we are a child of God, once we are a born again believer of God, we ought to be different from this world.  Once we are saved we ought to live our lives pleasing to God.  I am going to share just a few verses on what the Bible says we can do to please God.

It Pleases the Lord to bless Israel

Numbers 24:1 And when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.

It Pleases the Lord to pray for His children – even if they sin

1 Samuel 12:22-24 For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name's sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people. Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way: Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

It Pleases the Lord to bless our house and generations to come

2 Samuel 7:29 Therefore now let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Lord GOD, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.

It Pleases the Lord to receive sacrifice from those whose hearts are his. (Sacrifices did/do not save or please God unless our hearts are right with him)

Psalms 51:16-19 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem. Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.

It Pleases the Lord to lift our voices in praise to him

Psalms 69:30-31 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.

It Pleases the Lord if we magnify the law (His Word)

Isaiah 42:21 The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.

It Pleases the Lord to offer salvation to the world

Isaiah 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; Jesus Christ (clarification added db) he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

It Pleases the Lord to “Do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with thy God”

Micah 6:6-8 Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old? Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

It Pleases the Lord for us to be obedient to his Son

Matthew 17:5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

It Pleases the Lord when we don’t live in the flesh

Romans 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

It Pleases the Lord when we preach to the saving of the lost

1 Corinthians 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Pleases the Lord when we serve according to our calling and not jealous of other’s calling

1 Corinthians 12:17-19 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. And if they were all one member, where were the body?

It Pleases the Lord for children to obey their parents

Colossians 3:20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

It Pleases the Lord when we speak boldly of the gospel not feaing what man can do unto us

1 Thessalonians 2:4 But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.

It Pleases the Lord for us to walk according to the preaching of the scriptures

1 Thessalonians 4:1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.

It Pleases the Lord for us to “Do Good” and share with others

Hebrews 13:16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such `sacrifices God is well pleased.

Pleases the Lord for us to keep his commandments

1 John 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

Pleases the Lord for us to have faith

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

It Pleases the Lord to walk in his ways

Proverbs 16:7 When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

Pleases the Lord for us to have a testimony that we please the Lord

Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

Do you think it just might be possible for us to please God?  Yea, I not just possible but necessary.  May it be said of us that we had this testimony that we pleased God.  Remember without faith it is impossible to please God.
